Cut Designs

hand-cut paper (2013-2024)

stained & hand-cut porcelain (wheel thrown and slabs) (2017-2018)

Themes of tension, floral patterning, and suspension have long been staples in my making cycles, often taking form in hand-cut paper and hand-cut stained porcelain slabs . Gathering from both natural and derived patterns (coral, Art Deco design, the drapery of electrical lines, etc), I find comfort and glee in burrowing into these patterns- like a crab nesting in the sand. My time outside academia helped me understand materials in an intimate and diligent way; the luxury of time is so often overlooked in the rigor of studies.
