clotted

Tethered in materiality and in-kiln marriages of opposing materials, I've explored purity and contamination through fusing porcelain and metals at high temperatures. In Clotted and Not Twins, But Sisters, as well as the work leading up to my thesis, I wrestled with the same questions over and over, almost ritualistically-

What is the threshold between purity and contamination? If the act of contaminating a material mimics an act of purification, how do we categorize the outcome? What is so captivating about the tension within attraction and repulsion? What can grow within a polar duality? Is it healthy?
